How clay has always been a part of my life…

From the first time I began to work with clay at Filton Technology College, in Bristol, England, at a Saturday morning children’s workshop, I was hooked. I recall the wonderful facilities that we were let loose to work on; spray booths and wheels - glorious!

My continued journey with clay as a creative material has led me to a place in my life where I’m able to share my inspiration, expression and values through clay, for your enjoyment. I draw influences from Japanese ceramic culture and continue to study this rich legacy. I’ve spent the years working in theatre costume; in hospitals; in education and I’m now working  full-time as a potter and sculptor.

My work is mainly wheel-thrown; occasionally hand-built and I use a variety of clay, dependent on the piece, mainly TKJ and Dobles. I’m currently deepening my glazing and firing knowledge through a range of kiln firings, previously at Barn Pottery, Moretonhampstead and Kigbeare Studios, near Okehampton. In addition I have attended Masterclass workshops with Kazuya Ishida and Akira Satake.

Much of my work is on display at Appledore Gallery, Market Street, Appledore, North Devon, as well as number of regional artisan festivals throughout the year, including Bovey Tracey Craft Festival, Burton Art Gallery Open Exhibition, WHOBID Arts Exhibition, Connect and Create Festivals in Barnstaple, Created Festival in Abbotsham, North Devon and Westcountry Potters Association events in the South West.
